Second Project Meeting

Parnü (Estonia), March 29/30/31, 2012

The second meeting of the WaRe - WAterfront REgeneration project took place in Parnü, Estonia, from March 29th to the 31rst 2012. Hosted by the Estonian partner, Museum of New Art, the meeting focused on the study and analisys of the city of Parnü waterfront problems and of its surroundings. Articulated on site visits and meetings with local administrators, the WaRe second meeting ‘core’ was the International Conference entitled “New Breath of Waterfront Cities” that allowed an in-depth to the Parnü case study but also an exchange of experiences among the partners.

Parnü is in search to identify the best solution for the regeneration of its historical waterfront, with many important traces of great architectural value of the 1930s, but interventions and plans needs to take into account its regular exposition to severe floodings. The regeneration will also involve the remains of the former Soviet regime industrial zones.

Third Project Meeting

Ponte de Lima and Viana do Castelo (Portugal), June 7/8/9, 2012

The third meeting of the WaRe project is to be held in Portugal, on June 8th-10th, 2012, hosted by the portuguese partners Universidade Fernando Pessoa, OPPTerr-Observatorio de Politicas Públicas e Território. The workshop will have as a focuss of discussion the medium-small size waterfront cities, with particular attention to the Atlantic coast. The partners will be visiting the cities of Ponte de Lima and Viana do Castelo.

Fourth Project Meeting

Izola (Slovenia), September 24th - 28th 2012

The fourth meeting of the WaRe project is to be held in Slovenia, Izola, on September 24th-28th, 2012. Articulated as an International Architectural and Urban Design Workshop, entitled “Watefront Redevelopment: Izola East”, is organised by the WaRe Slovenian partner – University of Ljiubljana, Faculty of Architecture – and it is supported also by the European Social Fund. The workshop will focus the discussion on the case-study of Izola and, in particular, the future development of this watefront area, from shipyard and industry to tourist and cultural heritage resort

Fifth Project Meeting

 

Prague (Czech Republic) and Bratislava (Slovakia), February 28th - March 3rd 2013

The fifth meeting of the WaRe project is organised in two different seats: the city of Prague (Czech Republic), seat of the partner institutions Charles University, and in the city of Bratislava, Slovakia, selected as focus area for the recent and interesting development of its riverfront. The meeting was held on March 1rst and 2nd, 2013 (arrival on February 28th and departure on March 3rd). Articulated as an International Workshop, entitled “Turn towards the river”, the meeting focused the discussion on waterfront re-development as a challenge for a smart, sustainable and inclusive city, and, more specifically, on how each city is dealing with the aim of creating an economically viable, socially equitable, environmentally sustainable and liveable mixed-use city centre for the 21. Century. Furthermore, the case-study of Bratislava and, in particular, future developments of its waterfront area has been discussed. On the last day, the entire partnership transferred to Prague for a final internal session dedicated to conclusion remarks, together with the researcher group of Charles University.

Final Project Meeting             

Venice, Italy, May 5th - May 6th 2013

The final meeting of the WaRe project is to be held in Venice, Italy, on May 5th and 6th, 2013 (free arrival on Friday May 3rd or Saturday 4th and departure on May 6th). The final project meeting will be organised as in internal brainstorming among the partners to revised the draft of the final output – a digital publication – and to share conclusions.
