The workshops, held in each participating country, will give each partner the opportunity to lead the Partnership, focusing on the area most in need of professional development and collaborative learning. This will also provide an opportunity to extend the activities of the Partnership beyond its members to the wider community. In this way the project will implement a mechanism for sharing best practices while sharing information and knowledge that can be used to influence decision makers.

In general, the WaRe Project will focus on:

  1. learning from European best practices for a sustainable urban life;
  2. identifying, investigating and promoting waterfront regeneration projects along the coasts of Europe;
  3. the development of a ‘sense of belonging’ – by both the local and communities and at an international level – as part of the  cultural heritage of the areas concerned;
  4. the development of a new awareness and consciousness by local administrators and policy makers for the regeneration of these sites, and for their possible rehabilitation as preparation for new uses;
  5. the cooperation between different bodies – economic, cultural and administrative – in the rehabilitation process; involvement of different typologies of organisations and entities (government bodies, universities, port authorities, municipalities, etc.);
  6. harmonisation and public participation as a fundamental element for sustainability;
  7. normative aspects and regulations regarding waterfront regeneration projects.

In terms of methodology WARE aims to:

  1. identify, through cultural and technical cooperation between the partner organisations, best practices for the regeneration process built on a bottom-up, shared and multidisciplinary methodology and approach;
  2. widen the range and typology of users of these sites by using strategic tools built on a process shared by the project participants (partners, stakeholders, identified categories, general public, etc.);
  3. facilitate the development and transfer of innovative practices in informal adult education;
  4. improve the quality and quantity of international exchanges in all European organisations involved in informal adult education.
