First Project Meeting

Venice (Italy), January 12th/14th, 2012

The kick-off meeting of the WaRe - WAterfront REgeneration project took place in Venice, Italy, from January 12th to 14th 2012. Hosted by the lead partner, Cities on Water, the meeting brought the project partners together for the first time and focused on the regeneration projects underway along the waterfront of the Lido island.

The Lido is an 11 km long strip of land located between the Adriatic Sea and the Venice Lagoon and is home to about 20,000 residents. Connected to Venice and to the mainland by water transport, the Lido – together with a system of islands that includes La Certosa and Pellestrina – acts as a physical barrier separating the Lagoon from the sea. This area is currently undergoing major physical and functional transformations.
